Which Mysteries of the Rosary are Recited During Lent?

According to Pope Saint John Paul II, devotion to Mary through the rosary is among the finest and most praiseworthy traditions of Christian contemplation.
It is a powerful weapon for our spiritual warfare and a tool of intercession – one that helps an individual or a community of devotees remain ever connected with the Divine Word.

To the question above, there is no specific obligation to say a particular mystery during Lent. This means you can choose which mystery to pray according their days or make a choice to pray only one mystery throughout lent – it is left to personal or communal devotional preference.

When Pope John Paul II introduced the Luminous Mysteries, he suggested that Joyful Mysteries can be said on Monday and Saturday, Luminous – Thursday, Sorrowful – Tuesday and Friday, and Glorious – Wednesday and Sunday.

He added that “this indication is not intended to limit a rightful freedom in personal and community prayer, where account needs to be taken of spiritual and pastoral needs and of the occurrence of particular liturgical celebrations which might call for suitable adaptations”  (Rosarium Virginis Mariae, 38).

For the sake of “pastoral needs and adaptations”, there is a tradition to say the Sorrowful mysteries on every Sundays of lent, on Ash Wednesday and all through the Holy Week.

I hope this helps.
