You’re not victims of your circumstance but victor over them all with Christ.
Friends, today we continue with St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans (8:31–39). St. Paul reminds us of the depth of God’s love for us in Christ Jesus. He asks a question that echoes the confidence of the saved and redeemed: “If God is for us, who can be against us?”
This is not to say that trials and enemies will not arise. They will. But when God stands by our side, opposition may come yet cannot prevail. For faith is not the denial of the presence of enemies; faith is the declaration of the supremacy of God.
The God who did not spare His own Son for our salvation will go to any length to show His love for us. Friends, when you begin to doubt God’s love, look again at the Cross, love has already been proven there. The Cross remains the eternal evidence of God’s commitment to you. There, love speaks louder than your pain, your sin, or your failure.
We often hear the saying: “Don’t tell God how big your problem is; tell your problem how big your God is.” That is exactly what St. Paul is doing here, teaching us to live from the confidence of grace.
I love how David expresses this same confidence in Psalm 23: “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff comfort me.” That is the voice of faith, an act of deep faith, the kind that stands firm even when the valley is dark, knowing that the Shepherd’s presence is stronger than any shadow.
St. Paul goes further to remind us that nothing has the power to separate us from the love of God. He lists the things that often threaten to break us: tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, or sword. Yet he declares that in all these, we are not victims but conquerors through Christ who loves us.
To be a Christian, my dear friends, does not mean we have escaped suffering; it means we have transcended it through love. The love of Christ transforms every cross into a crown, every trial into testimony. For love is the true weapon that disarms the powers of darkness. Love is stronger than fear, more persistent than pain, and more enduring than death.
Then Paul brings it home with a powerful assurance:
“I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
What a statement!
Nothing, absolutely nothing, can cut you off from the love that created you, redeemed you, and sustains you. Not your past mistakes, not your present struggles, not even your future fears. Christ’s love is not a feeling to be earned; it is a reality to be trusted.
So, when life becomes overwhelming, when your prayers feel unanswered, when people disappoint or desert you, remember this: God is for you.
You are not alone. You are not forgotten. You are not defeated. You are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you.
Let this truth be your anchor today: God’s love is constant, unchanging, and victorious. It goes before you in battle, walks beside you in the storm, and waits for you at the end of every trial.
Since God is for you, nothing can be against you.
Since Christ loves you, nothing can destroy you.
And since the Spirit dwells in you, nothing can separate you from the heart of God.
Amen. 🙏🏽
