The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Those who recognized Mary as blessed are those filled with the Holy Spirit
As I reflected on the holiness and blessedness of Mary, I became more convinced of the truth that “to recognize the blessedness of Mary is to be filled with the Holy Spirit”.
In the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke, all those who recognized the blessedness of Mary were filled with the Holy Spirit. Beginning with John the Baptist, even from his mother’s womb, was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:15).
At the sound of Mary’s greeting, he leapt for joy (Luke 1:44) already recognising the presence of the Lord and the blessedness of His Mother.
Elizabeth, too, filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:41), cried out: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” She did not arrive at this insight by human reasoning but by the Spirit’s inspiration.
A Model of Grace
Mary herself is the model of this grace. The Holy Spirit came upon her (Luke 1:35), making her the dwelling place of the Son of God. And in her humility she proclaimed: “All generations will call me blessed” (Luke 1:48).
It is the Spirit, therefore, who reveals the mystery of Mary. To recognize her blessedness is not mere devotion but a Spirit-filled acknowledgment of God’s work in her life.
As the Spirit moved John, Elizabeth, and Mary, may He also open our eyes today to see in Mary not just a mother, but the blessed vessel of grace who leads us to her Son-Jesus Christ. Amen
Happy birthday Mother most blessed 🎂🎉
