The Price of the Misuse of Power

Friends, today’s reading from Wisdom 6:1-11, reminds us that all power comes from God, and that those who misuse it, those who oppress, manipulate, or exploit others, will give an account. It says plainly: “A severe judgment awaits those in high places.”

This brings me to the question many of us have silently asked: Should we wait for the last judgment before our oppressors are judged?

Can I ask you gently, have you felt wronged, overlooked, or treated unfairly?

Have you ever watched someone prosper through deceit while your own honest efforts seem to go unnoticed?

Sometimes it feels as though evil people go unpunished while the innocent suffer. We see injustice thrive, the proud succeed, and the righteous ignored. You are not alone, many righteous men and women before us have walked that same painful path.

The Book of Wisdom today tells us that no one escapes divine scrutiny. God’s justice may not always be instant, but it is always certain.

Remember this: God is not unjust.

He sees every tear, every quiet endurance, every sacrifice made in love. Even when people forget or manipulate, God records faithfully. The delay of His justice is not denial, it is preparation. He uses these moments to refine our hearts, strengthen our trust, and teach us that peace does not come from outcomes but from His presence.

There’s a kind of victory that happens long before vindication, the peace of knowing you are right with God. That peace is already a judgment in your favour. So, stand firm. Keep your hands clean, your words kind, and your heart pure. God will settle your case.

“The Lord will fight for you; you have only to keep still.” (Exodus 14:14)

Those who lift themselves high without God will surely fall; but those who remain humble before Him will rise in due time.

Prayer:

Lord, when injustice surrounds us, teach us to trust in Your timing and not lose heart. Give courage to the oppressed and humility to those in power. Let Your wisdom guide every ruler, and let Your justice reign in our hearts. May we never repay evil with evil, but overcome evil with good. Amen.
