We Are One Body in Christ
Friends, on this Mercy Tuesday, St. Paul reminds us, in Romans 12:5–16, that though we are many, we form one body in Christ, and each member belongs to all the others. We are not meant to walk alone. Each person carries a gift, a grace, and a role that contributes to the beauty of the whole. The hand cannot say to the eye, “I don’t need you.” The Church grows when we serve with sincerity and recognise that every gift, no matter how small, is sacred.
Paul encourages us to use our gifts faithfully: if you are called to teach, teach with love; if to serve, serve with joy; if to lead, lead with diligence; if to show mercy, do it cheerfully. Every calling, whether seen or hidden, is precious to God. Remember that true greatness is found not in recognition, but in faithful service.
Love must be sincere, he says. Hate what is evil and cling to what is good. Let love be genuine, not selective, not proud, not self-seeking. Be devoted to one another, honour each other, be patient with and compassionate to your neighbour. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, and constant in prayer.
When life tests your patience or when people fail to understand your kindness, remember that God sees. He rewards what is done quietly and sustains what is done in love.
I pray for you today: that Mercy will reward your good works and favour your efforts and sacrifices.
St. Paul ends by reminding us to live in harmony with one another, to be humble and willing to associate with those of low position. The measure of Christian maturity is not how high we rise, but how low we stoop to lift others.
Everything we do must flow from the love of Christ who lives in us. Let our every word, our every act, and every moment reflect His mercy at work within you.
May God strengthen you as you serve joyfully, love sincerely, and stay rooted in hope even when life feels uncertain. May the peace of Christ fill your heart and the light of His love guide your path.
Amen
