Is your faith obedient?
Today, St. Paul in Romans 4:20–25 reminds us of the faith of Abraham; a faith that was patient, trusting and obedient. Through his example, Paul invites us into union with the Abrahamic covenant, reminding us that true faith is not passive belief but an active, trusting obedience to God’s word.
“He did not doubt God’s promise in unbelief, but was strengthened in faith and gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what He had promised.” (Romans 4:20–21)
Friends, faith does not mean that everything will always work out quickly or clearly in our favour. It doesn’t guarantee certainty or constant success. Faith means trusting that God is at work, even when life feels uncertain or the path ahead is foggy. It is believing that through Christ, God’s hand is still guiding us, even when we can’t see it.
That was Abraham’s faith. From the moment he heard God’s voice to the fulfilment of the promise, he remained steadfast, trusting that the Lord would make a way.
In the Gospel (Luke 12:13–21), we meet the rich fool, whose problem was not wealth, but self-reliance. He believed he could secure his life by his own strength, storing up treasures only for himself while forgetting God and neglecting the poor.
St. Camillus de Lellis reminds us:
“When we help the poor, we help Jesus Himself.”
The rich man took God out of his plans, and his wealth became empty.
Let it not be our case that God is absent from our joys, our plans, or our blessings.
As we enter this season of Thanksgiving and Charity Outreaches, may we bring God into our gratitude by sharing His love with others.
Faith becomes alive when it bears fruit in generosity, compassion, and service.
Prayer:
Lord, grant us the faith of Abraham; obedient, trusting and steadfast. May we never take You out of our plans or our joys. Bless us in this season of charity to reach out with open hands and grateful hearts, that our faith may bring glory to Your name.
Amen.
