St. Luke, Beloved Physician and Faithful Friend
Today, we reflect on the person of St. Luke, a friend who never left but stayed through all things.
Luke was a Gentile convert to Christianity, a physician, and a writer. He authored both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, giving us one of the clearest portraits of Jesus’ compassion and the early Church’s growth.
His writings are marked by humility, mercy, and God’s faithfulness, always lifting the lowly and revealing how deeply God cares for those who are forgotten or broken.
We honour Luke today not just as a Gospel writer but as a faithful friend, the one who stayed by Paul’s side when others had left (2 Timothy 4:11). He reminds us that true friendship is not about being present only when things go well, but about staying when times are hard, listening when words fail, and praying when hope seems lost.
A good friend stays. A good friend believes. A good friend reflects the heart of Jesus.
So today, pray for one and be one.
Be a Luke to someone who needs encouragement, loyalty or quiet presence.
St. Luke, beloved physician and faithful friend, pray for us.
St Luke, pray for us
